ACGME to Honor Dr. Abdulla Ghori with Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award

Abdulla Ghori, MD, Chair of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) was named one of three recipients of the prestigious “Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award, 2016”.

This is an award of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to honor DIOs who have demonstrated excellence in overseeing residency programs at their sponsoring institutions.

DIOs are responsible for all graduate medical education programs in a teaching hospital, community hospital, or other type of institution that sponsors residency programs.

The ACGME recognizes that designated institutional officials (DIOs) face many challenges in:

• creating an environment for educational programs,

• facilitating residents’ ethical, professional, and personal development, and

• ensuring safe and appropriate care of patients

The Courage to Lead Award acknowledges the leadership and commitment of DIOs who foster an excellent environment for resident/fellow education.

Dr. Ghori has been a Pediatrician at MetroHealth since 1998. He served as Program Director of Pediatrics from 2002 to 2015, and has been in his current role as DIO since 2009. He is also the Vice Chair for Pediatrics.

Dr. Ghori will receive the award at the Annual ACGME Conference, in Orlando, March 2017.

He is a resident of Strongsville.
