These stocking stuffers will help our foster kids

Lisa West, a former foster mother and now adoptive mother, decided the holiday season was the perfect time to do something for Greater Cleveland’s foster kids.

Every child entering foster care in Cuyahoga County gets a checkup at MetroHealth. After that, we offer all foster kids routine and sick care (physicals, immunizations, behavioral/mental health and more). It’s a great partnershipbetween us and Cuyahoga County’s Division of Children and Family Services.

When new foster children come to MetroHealth, they often don’t have such basics as toothbrushes, shampoo and soap. Our care team provides them with these essentials.

When Lisa heard that we sometimes need help stocking our shelves with these products, she went to work: She enlisted the families of the 400-or-so students who attend Roxboro Elementary School in Cleveland Heights.

The result? On Friday, Lisa dropped off more than 1,500 toothbrushes, tubes of toothpaste, bottles of shampoo/body wash, sticks of deodorant and lots more.

Thank you to Lisa and the Roxboro families for making sure that local kids have the basics during what can be a challenging time.

These gifts will keep on giving.
