MetroHealth Chief Executive Officer & President Airica Steed, Ed.D., MBA, RN, FACHE

MetroHealth President & CEO Airica Steed, Ed.D, RN, MBA, FACHE, has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2023 edition of its “Women Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know” list.

As the first Black person, first nurse and first woman to serve as MetroHealth’s CEO, Dr. Steed is fighting passionately to eradicate health disparities and make sure every person – in Cuyahoga County and beyond – has an equal chance at a long and healthy life. In her role as a community leader, Dr. Steed has made it her personal goal to give a voice to the voiceless and ensure everyone has a seat at the table. And as a fourth-generation nurse who has risen through the ranks of the health care industry, Dr. Steed is deeply committed to lifting others and developing the next generation of leaders.

“I am truly humbled by this recognition, and I believe it is a reflection of the incredible work happening at MetroHealth,” Dr. Steed said. “We are working with urgency to eradicate health disparities and zero out the death gap in Cuyahoga County. This work will serve as a guide for other communities across the state and nation.”

According to Becker’s, the executives featured on this list are responsible for growing their hospitals, fostering positive workforce cultures, expanding services and facilities, increasing provider and patient satisfaction levels and more. Click here to see the full list.

Before joining MetroHealth in December 2022, Dr. Steed served as Chief Operating Officer of Sinai Chicago Health System and president of Mount Sinai and Sinai Children's Hospital. At Sinai, she was the guiding force behind clinical, operational, financial and cultural changes that generated over $200 million in improvements across three years. Her work also led to enhanced publicly reported quality indicators and a 40% decrease in mortality rates and infections caught in the hospital.

She holds a Doctorate in Education from Olivet Nazarene University, a Master of Business Administration from Governors State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rush University and is pursuing a Master's in International Relations with a focus on Healthcare from Harvard University Extension School.
