MetroHealth Names Director of Cancer Institute

The MetroHealth System has appointed Rakhshanda Rahman, MBBS, MD, FCPS, FRCS (Ed & Glasg), FACS, as Director of the Cancer Institute.

Dr. Rahman joins MetroHealth from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas, where she served as Medical Director of the UMC Cancer Center, Director of Breast Center of Excellence and Vice Chair of Cancer Research and Development. She is nationally recognized for her clinical practice and translational research in the field of cryoablation for breast cancer.

Dr. Rahman is also a published author on topics of personal development and leadership, including her latest book, Leadership Deconstructed. In addition, she is a nationally recognized speaker and instructor on leadership in business and health care.

Dr. Rahman maintains an active clinical research, educational and leadership portfolio and serves on several national boards and committees, including for the American Society of Breast Surgeons and National Consortium of Breast Centers.

She graduated from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, where she completed her internship and residency. She then spent several years furthering her studies, completing fellowships in breast and general surgery in 2001 at Aga Khan, followed by a breast subspecialty fellowship at the University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences.

Dr. Rahman is the recipient of several awards and honors, including the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM), Professional Breast Health Champion, Texans Caring for Texans Award and Amarillo Women's Network Career Achievement Award.
