Patient Condition Updates
A patient's first and last name are required to request a patient condition update. If the patient is a minor, parent or guardian consent is needed for release of a condition. Patients and/or their families reserve the right to decline the release of conditions.
Federal regulations contained in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) restrict the amount of information that can be released about a patient to a single, one-word condition. The conditions are:
- Good: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
- Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
- Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
- Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
